We just received word from Thida, our contact at the Women’s Development Association, of the great extent the flooding in Cambodia has impacted Phnom Penh and the surround provinces. WDA is kept busy looking after the people in Phnom Penh and especially in the Prey Veng province as they help those deeply affeted by the flooding. Our latest update is that “17 provinces are affected by flooding and a lot of hectare of rice-fields sink into the water.” This is the worst flooding Cambodia has seen in a decade, at an estimate of 200 people killed. As a huge part of Cambodia’s economic sector is agriculture, they are especially vulnerable to the effects of global warming.
Our thoughts are with Cambodia and WDA during this time, and we will keep working hard on our end to bring as much awareness and relief as we can.
